Malaysia and Kuala Lumpur, its capital city, are fantastic food destinations, a melting pot of different traditions and cultures, and there’s a new generation of chefs that is reinventing the local food scene.

So, if you’re looking to start a culinary career in Malaysia and to be part of this new and exciting gastronomic wave, check out some of the best culinary schools that Malaysia has to offer.

1. Tunku, Kuala lumpur

Tunku is part of Tunku Abdul Rahman University and offers a Diploma in Culinary Arts. To earn this diploma, students are required to study for two years and take classes such as Butchery, Food and Beverage Service, Nutrition, Asian Cuisine, Fundamental Cooking and Larder, and Patisserie. During their studies, culinary students will not only learn how to create delicious meals, but how to see food as an art.

In addition to this, students will discover the right ways to communicate in the kitchen and the importance of teamwork. Tunku has both a training kitchen and a handful of restaurants culinary students can use and where they will be watched over by experts in the field.

During their studies, students will be sent to work as apprentices in local restaurants to gain valuable experience. This school opens for admissions in May and October and tuition varies depending on whether you are a Malaysian or international student.

2. Le Cordon Bleu, Kuala Lumpur

Located in Malaysia’s capital city Kuala Lumpur, this branch of Le Cordon Bleu is one of the most respected culinary schools in the world and gives culinary students an extensive learning experience with hands-on assignments and helpful instructional videos.

Culinary students can apply to study for one of Le Cordon Bleu’s many diploma programs, including its Grand Diplôme which combines its culinary arts and pastry arts degrees. Some things you will learn when here is how to plate desserts, current food trends, and how to create artisan breads. Each class is led by a professional chef who will give detailed culinary demonstrations students must watch.

Culinary students will work in a state-of-the-art kitchen that features individual workspaces. Le Cordon Bleu’s tuition is around $22,000 per degree. Those interested in applying must do so within a certain period of time as this school only has four openings throughout the year.

3. APCA, Kuala Lumpur

APCA offers both full-time and part-time courses for culinary students in its large facility. While here, students will learn important kitchen techniques and recipes from some of the top chefs in the world. APCA has nine state-of-the-art pastry kitchens and bakeries that are furnished with the best culinary equipment available.

The courses last about nine months and tuition differs depending on the one you sign up for. In addition to professional diplomas, APCA has Master Class Workshops where students will learn how to make key ingredients and dishes like tapas, fresh bread, homemade butter, chicken herbal soup, ten zaru soba, and hummus.

For those looking to quickly earn a certificate or degree, APCA offers a 24-Day Intensive Program where students will spend 24 days working hard to learn important skills in the pastry arts. This cooking school also hosts a few workshops throughout the year that touch on topics like chocolate and breadmaking.
