Appelmoes (Dutch Applesauce)
The Dutch love eating applesauce (or appelmoes as they call it) as a condiment with their main course. It’s very much part of the everyday family meal in Holland.
Applemoes (Dutch Applesauce)
Applemoes is a popular "condiment" with main meals for both young and old Kids favourite dish in Netherlands is kip met patat en appelmoes (chicken with fries and applesauce)
Ingredients
- 1 kg apples around 8 apples
- 2 tablespoon sugar
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 60 ml water
- cinnamon stick
Instructions
- Peel the apples and chop them into chunks. Sprinkle them with some lemon juice to prevent the browning and put them in big pot.
- Add a few cups of water depending on your size pot. Basically, put the apples in a few centimeters of water.
- Cover and simmer the apples until they become fully cooked, occasionally sprinkling sugar over them.
- Leave it chunky or smash it slightly to create a finer texture. Taste and adjust the sweetness or the flavor of cinnamon as preferred.
