French Bread Pizza (Baguette Pizza)
If you’re in the mood for pizza but don’t have the time to knead and bake a proper pizza dough, this French bread pizza recipe is a real lifesaver.
It’s not really a pizza, of course, but it makes a quick and super tasty lunch. The toppings are up to you, but be sure to include a sauce to spread on the baguette. A classic tomato and basil sauce on one half of the baguette and a homemade basil pesto on the other half is a good choice, and, of course, grated mozzarella on top. Then you can add salami, ham, cheese, olives, tomatoes, peppers, onions, tuna, corn – you name it!
As for the baguette, choose whichever you like, a classic baguette (my favorite) or some other type of French bread.
Once you’ve dressed your baguette with your chosen ingredients, simply pop it in the oven for a few minutes, and you have crunchy, savory and very tasty French bread pizza! Bon appetit!
French Bread Pizza (Baguette Pizza)
Ingredients
- 2 baguettes
- 6 tbsp basil pesto
- 6 tbsp tomato sauce
- pitted black olives sliced
- pepperoni slices
- mozzarella cheese grated
- 7 plum tomatoes halved
- fresh basil leaves
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 185° C/365° F.
- Cut one of the baguettes in half. Spread 3 tablespoons of tomato sauce on one half of the baguette and 3 tablespoons of basil pesto on the other.
- Top each half with pepperoni slices, grated mozzarella, sliced black olives, and finally top with a few tomato halves. Over that, place some basil leaves and feel free to sprinkle on dried oregano, crushed black pepper, and/or other spices, as you like.
- Repeat the process with the second baguette.
- Place the pizza baguettes on a baking tray lined with parchment paper and place in the oven for 15-20 minutes until the cheese has melted and browned and the tomatoes have softened.
- Take the pizza baguettes out of the oven. You can top them with more basil leaves if you like and serve immediately.
